NICOLA TREMAIN director

I have over 15 years experience directing documentaries for the major broadcasters and streamers including Emmy-nominated and Critics’ Choice Documentary Award-winning Secrets of the Elephants (Disney+), RTS Scotland-winning Cheetah Family & Me and Equator from the Air for BBC Two and New Lives in the Wild for Channel 5. Most recently, I was at Passion, series directing and self-shooting 2-parter Becoming Elephant (PBS/Sky Nature) about a community-run elephant sanctuary in Northern Kenya.
I am highly experienced working with talent and contributors alike and I'm as at ease filming the intimate moments of people's lives as I am immersed in the jungle with the military police or up close with dangerous animals.

Having directed presenter-led, wildlife, obs doc, specialist factual and drama doc, I am adept at taking on new challenges. I pride myself on getting to the heart of a story quickly; building solid relationships with contributors and telling stories in the most compelling way. Making films is a real privilege, and my enthusiasm for it means I create a strong team atmosphere on location: even the toughest shoots should be fun.

I am a creative and strong self-shooter on FX6 & Ronin 4D.
I'm also an artist selling original pieces and working to commission. I believe that my artistic eye spills over into my film work, whether self-shooting or directing.

I have 8 rescue hens, a Bernese Mountain dog and a PhD in genetics.
